Your gift makes the dogs’ gifts to the world possible. Service dogs, guide dogs, hearing dogs, diabetic alert dogs, drug detection dogs, bomb sniffing dogs, agriculture scent detection dogs, social/therapy dogs, dogs helping servicemen and women with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and children with Autism represent just a few of those ways dogs are helping humankind.

Through our University programs and Research we enable individuals and organizations worldwide to be more productive in pursuing dog-related careers and to be more effective in “helping dogs help people.”

Your donations can take many forms – from direct gifts and pledges to online gifts. Workplace and corporate matching gifts that involve your employer have an added bonus of more people learning about us. A bequest ensures that we remain in your heart and you in ours forever. Another gift of inspiration is one to honor the memory of a loved one, or a friend’s loved one, be it dog or human. A sponsorship paves the way for someone with a disability to receive an assistance dog that they might not otherwise be able to afford. And consideration of our “Wish List” lessens some of the pressures of everyday operational costs.

ICAWe are certified by the Independent Charities of America.

Remember, even $1 can make a difference. All donations are tax deductible.

Bequests top of page

To help achieve our long-term goals, Bergin University is seeking new funding for expanded programs and new initiatives. We want to grow our Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. We want to continue and further our exciting research into canine cognition, and human/canine partnerships. We want to expand our work with educating at-risk teens and with people in need of social/therapy interventions in the community. We want to increase the number of puppies and dogs in training and have more space for them to exercise and play.

If you have visited our campus, you know that we use every square foot of our space for dogs, people and programs. Future growth plans include a new campus for our University.

One way you might consider helping the University achieve its long-term goals is by setting up a planned gift. There are many methods by which someone may make a planned gift to Bergin University.

A Charitable Bequest is simply a distribution from your estate to a charitable organization through your last will and testament. There are different kinds of bequests. For each, you need to use specific language to indicate the precise direction of your assets, and to successfully carry out your final wishes.

General Bequests are legacies left to certain people or causes that come from the general value of the estate, and are made by designating a specific dollar amount, a particular asset or a fixed percentage of your estate.

Specific Bequests are made when a particular item or property is bequeathed for a designated purpose (e.g., equipment with a certain designated use, or funds to be used to support a particular program or goal, such as an endowed faculty chair at Bergin University).

Residuary Bequests are made when you intend to leave the residue portion of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied.

Contingency Bequests allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a particular charity if your named beneficiary does not survive you. Please contact the University (info@BerginU.org, 707.545.DOGS) or discuss with your estate attorney to learn more more about leaving a legacy to Bergin University.
